Brendalee Coan
Brendalee Coan is a proud Gadigal woman from La Perouse, New South Wales. Coan creates work that reflects her strong connection to family and culture. Working predominantly in acrylics, her paintings explore the role of the mother in guiding and nurturing their young, her connection to Country and the significant relationships between humans and the natural environment. Brendalee’s work featured in Little Orange Presents: Pandora AGNSW International Day for People with Disability. She was a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 Coan collaborated with artists Giselle Stanborough, Renee Allara and Jessica Fesic in a city-wide domestic violence awareness campaign that included a large-scale installation on Campbelltown’s Australia Post Office Building on Dumaresq Street and Millgate Lane arcade.
Brendalee Coan is a member of Little Orange, a Campbelltown Arts Centre working studio for artists who identify as a person living with disability, d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing and/or Disabled Creatives.
Calming Waters
Brendalee Coan's Calming Waters (2024) gouache painting forms a series of exclusive printed artist products, From pillows, tote bags, stools and hair scrunchies, the work celebrates her close connection to Dharawal Country in the region of Campbelltown, New South Wales. The multiple patterned circles are waterholes , signifying their ever-changing potential to soothe, heal and regenerate.
