What I Thought About When I Thought About Dancing was a contemporary interdisciplinary project that ran from November 16, 2009, to January 3, 2010, at Campbelltown Art Centre. It investigated the shifting boundaries and crossover of dance and visual art practices.
For the project, Campbelltown Arts Centre had brought together 23 dance and visual artists from across Australia and internationally to engage in residencies, performances, an exhibition, and publication. "Typically, many cross-genre explorations overlaid visual arts practice on dance performance, but this project was the other way around - dance on visual arts. Our direction for this exhibition was to elicit responses from artists, to question the meeting place of dance and visual arts across cultures, communities, and by individuals."
With an extensive residency program and multiple new work commissions, What I Thought About When I Thought About Dancing had a sharp focus on supporting the development of new work and presenting artists and processes to the public.
