Presented by Campbelltown Arts Centre in January 2017 as part of Sydney Festival, Another Day in Paradise was the first major exhibition by artist Myuran Sukumaran. Alongside Sukumaran’s works were a series of newly commissioned artworks by leading Australian artists, Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Megan Cope, Jagath Dheerasekara, Taloi Havini, Khaled Sabsabi, and Matthew Sleeth, whose works respond to the death penalty and profile human rights.
Curated by Ben Quilty and Michael Dagostino, Another Day In Paradise presents a vast and sobering series of powerful portraits by Sukumaran, painted during his incarceration at Bali’s Kerobokan jail and from his final incarceration on Nusa Kambangan Island.
This exhibition highlighted the importance of forgiveness and compassion for humanity, while proving the profound power of art to change lives.
This is the exhibition catalogue that was produced and includes extensive images of Myuran Sukumaran’s work, along with the installation of this exhibition at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The catalogue is more than 350 pages and features writing by Ben Quilty, Chinthu Sukumaran, Julian McMahon, Louise Milligan among others, along with artists statements and extensive information about Sukumaran’s practice and body of work.
